I’m playing an Order of the Ancients Oath Paladin but I assume this process is similar for other Paladin Oaths and any other classes with a similar mechanic. If you go against the teachings of your oath and become an Oathbreaker, you will have a new condition on your character called “Oath Broken”. Reading this condition tells you that you will be visited the next time you rest at camp. When you wake after a full rest, you will find an Oathbreaker Knight waiting to speak with you in your camp.

How To Reclaim Your Broken Oath In Baldur’s Gate 3

Speaking with the Oathbreaker Knight gives two choices. You can continue down this path and become a fully-fledged Oathbreaker, or you can attempt to repair your oath. If you want to reclaim your oath, make that choice in the conversation. Then tell the knight you wish to take up your oath again. You will then need to pay 1,000 gold to have everything restored. Feels a bit cheap, right?

Once you pay the fee, all of your abilities and actions will be restored and you can continue as normal.

If You Decide They’re Too Dangerous – They Need To Die
If the vampire spawn survived, they will question the decision. Astarion claims they are not like them. He then uses the staff and you watch as each of them explode. Astarion lets the other vampire spawn leave. When you speak with Astarion later, he appears to regret making this choice.

If You Decide Let’s Release Them. They Deserve The Same Chance You Got
If you decide to release them all, Astarion uses the staff to free all of the Vampire Spawn. This will break certain Oaths for the Paladin. You free the Vampire spawn and as you leave, you meet the Gur’s. They are initially upset that you have released the vampires, but seem more understanding once they realize the children were freed. We will update this if there are further consequences.

If You Choose Why Not Just Leave Them? They’re Not Out Responsibility
If the vampire spawn survived the battle, they will ask if you are being serious, they cannot be left there to die. Astarion will snap the staff in hand and wash his hands of everything. The vampire spawn will be stuck forever.

The Necromancy Of Thay Book Choices Guide For Baldur’s Gate 3

If You Decide To Read The Book
If you open the book, you can no longer decide to give it to Astarion. You will need to made a DC 10 Wisdom Saving Throw, a DC 15 Wisdom Saving Throw, and a DC 20 Wisdom Saving Throw. You will then learn Speak With The Dead as a spell you can cast. You are unable to read the final page so the quest continues. It’s quite a lengthy process to read the book so check out our video guide on how to read the final page of the book. You get a powerful Necromancy spell that allows you to use a corpse to summon 6 ghouls. It does warn that you will suffer consequences later, we’ve yet to get there.

You can head to this house in Baldur’s Gate and speak with the Necromancer there. There is a secret door that looks like a wall but it’s easy to spot. Make sure you are using the character that read the final page. Save it first, if you speak with the wrong character the conversation won’t be available again.

If You Give The Book To Astarion
If you give the book to Astarion, he can read it like anyone else. However, on one of the steps Astarion has the option to do a Wisdom Saving Throw and “Drink in the darkness”. This is an option that no other character has. Once Astarion finishes reading the book in this way, he can read the final page the same as anyone else. I had already completed Astarion’s storyline so it’s difficult to be sure, but I think allowing him to read it gives him the ability to perform the right at the end of his arc.

If You Destroy The Book
If you decide to drop the book and destroy it, you will need to attack it with Radiant Damage, it is immune to all other damage types. Abilities, such as Divine Smite, do not work. It needs to be an area of effect ability that does Radiant Damage. I used Sunbeam. Once the book is destroyed, it will summon two shades you will have to kill. The book remains destroyed and the quest is complete.

How To Respec In Baldur’s Gate 3

In order to respec you are going to need to find the undead Withers. Warp to the Overgrown Ruins way point and you can pick the lock of the door nearby. Withers is inside of that area so you have to get through. On the other side you will enter some ruins with a ton of traps. You can disable them, but the main purpose is to get to the other side.

Enter the next room and go to the back area. There is a lever back there that opens a secret room. Interact with the coffin inside and then defeat the undead. Withers will be in the coffin and he will join you at camp eventually. When Withers gets to your camp, you can have him change your class for 100 gold. He doesn’t pop up if you do long rests in caves or dungeons, but if you are in the open area he will join your camp.

What Happens If You Let Volo Stab Your Eye In Baldur’s Gate 3

So it is pretty safe to say that Volo has no idea what he is doing. If you let him try to remove it, he will hit your optic nerve instead and you will have to sit through a lot of pain. I’m pretty sure he even lobotomizes you at one point. If you endure it though you do wake up with only one eye, which would normally be a problem.

Volo however has a magic eye that he gives you so you can see normally. This eye also lets you see invisible creatures, which is very powerful in the Underdark. So your best option is to actually endure Volo mutilating you to get a bonus magic eye.

What Happens If You Give Your Eye To The Hag In Baldur’s Gate 3

Once you find the Hag, she will offer to remove the Tadpole if you give her your eye. If you give her your eye, she will ask you which one you want to give up. That choice doesn’t matter, just determines which eye if effected. She will remove it and you will get a green eye in return, one that glows. The Hag will then hold up her end of the bargain and attempt to remove the tadpole.

Unfortunately, the Hag didn’t realize how strong your Tadpole is and refuses to remove it once she finds out. She will then hand you an item and warp away. The item gives you advantage on all checks until your next long rest once used. The eye gives you +1 to intimidation, but gives you disadvantage on perception checks and disadvantage on attacks against Hags.

So she doesn’t help you and disadvantage on perception checks is a terrible debuff. Handing your eye over ti the Hag is not worth it in my opinion. Maybe if you kill her then it cures, but I am not sure.

What Happens If You Open The Caravan Chest In Baldur’s Gate 3

You can choose to leave the chest alone and help the guys. If you do this they will give you a password to a secret drinking spot and ask you to join them for a drink.

If you touch the chest, they will warn you once. If you touch it again, the two of them wills tart a fight with you and try to kill you. Defeat them, loot the area, and then you need to pick the lock on the chest or drag it with you.

If you open the chest there is some gold, a gem, and what is known as an Iron Flask. This is a real DND item but this Flask has something in it already. If you throw it out, a level 5 (at least it was 5 for me) Spectator will spawn and go on a rampage. I was able to kill it, but it does multiple beam attacks that can paralyze, sleep, and damage. Also it can fly. I got nothing off the body, so I don’t recommend tossing it for nothing.

I’ll update once I get to Baldur’s Gate and someone inevitable comes after me for the Flask.

Take the Vial Of Smoke Powder Or Attack In Baldur’s Gate 3

After you find the Gnome with the Smoke Powder, she will basically threaten to blow everyone up. If you push her far enough, she will actually do it and destroy all the Smoke Powder and herself. Your best bet is to talk her down and have her offer one vial. She doesn’t like the idea of you freeing the True Soul trapped within, but it’s either that or blowing herself up.

She will hand you the Smoke Powder and tell you to tell the other Gnome that she is gone. She will take off and you can loot the room if you want. If you try to take more she’ll blow the whole room up and you along with it. I survived the explosion, but the True Soul and other Gnomes didn’t.

Alright so busting through that rubble is no easy task. First chat with the gnome, hopefully you hear them talking about Smoke Powder. If not you can maybe see some other Gnomes through the True Soul’s eye and convince them Gnomes that way. If none of that works, you’ll have to risk it without the Gnomes help.

Head back down to where you came in at (the area with the ship) and there are two doors you can go through on the other side. Inside one of them you will find what looks to be a feasting hall. At the end of that room there is a button to reveal a hidden door. Follow that path around and you’ll fight some slimes, so be ready.

Kill them and keep going up, jumping the gap and following the torch up further. You’ll hit another door, unlock it and inside you’ll find the Gnome with the Smoke Powder. Convince her to stand down and she will offer you one vial if she can leave. Take the offer, because if not she blows herself up and you along with it.

Return to the rubble, toss the Smoke Powder onto the pile, wait for the people to clear out, then hit it with fire. From there you have a choice to make. After the True Soul kicked my Gnome homie into the lava it was war for me.

It’s worth noting that Baldur’s Gate 3 has thousands of choices, hundreds of different outcomes. Some decisions will have a minor and immediate impact, others will have longer-lasting impact that can alter the entire game. This is one such choice as one of these paths means removing a companion, permanently.

Attack The Tieflings Or Attack Lae’Zel In Baldur’s Gate 3

If You Choose Attack Lae’Zel
There are two possible outcomes here. If you attack Lae’Zel and kill her, she’s dead. She will not be a companion and you will not encounter her for the rest of the game. However, the game does introduce a Passive ability called “Toggle: Non-Lethal Attacks”. This causes all damage done by that character to be non-lethal, meaning it will not kill the target. I thought this meant you were able to knock Lae’Zel out and not kill her, but every effort using this ability results in the “Dead” condition being applied. I don’t think you can avoid killing Lae’Zel if you make this choice. Shadowheart will approve of this choice.

If You Choose Attack The Tieflings
Shadowheart disapproves and Astarion approves this decision. You will have to fight the Tieflings. However, you are able to knock these unconscious. I have not encountered them again yet but as a Paladin, this did cause me to break my oath, which comes with its own problems. This is the only choice you can make if you want to have Lae’Zel as a companion.

Deceive The Tieflings
I think you need to be proficient in deception to get this choice. You tell the Tieflings that Lae is dangerous and they should run. They will say they have other things to attend to and leave you to freeing Lae if you want. They also mention a big explosion.
