Yeah the rare animals have that yellow smell cloud following them. I found most of them as I was exploring Oros.

If im not mistaken when you use hunter vision around deer the rare dear should appear white rather than yellow. And for the Red Bitefish will have a yellow trail, i believe that’s how you tell the difference between the rare Red Bitefish and White Deer from the rest.
