I really don’t think it matters who you assign to what. A friendly tip, tough…. Use clothing so you can easily identify who has what job in your settlements. So you can easily reassign them if needed. For instance I use military gear on my guards, I give my merchants visors or fedoras….

You can make make quite a bit of caps just selling off the extra purified water and food from your settlements if you don’t want to use a lvl up for local leader… I have 5 lvl2 stores in Sanctuary and i make more off of selling water bottles ;P Not sure if upgrading to lvl3 stores is worth it….

I have The app “Fallout Shelter” on my phone. And if i want to assign a settler (or dweller) for a job.. Its The best if it fits his special abilities. Does that count for fallout 4 as well? And if so, where can I see which settler is better at what?

In reply to Captain Camper. the "!" refers to a resource that does not meet the population of the settlement (i.e. not enough food, power, water for a settlements whose population exceeds the resources you have)

In reply to Jamie Ng. I haven't seen this myself. I would guess that it means the defense is too low. Once a settlement is under attack you only have a few minutes to respond, otherwise you fail at defending it. So if the ! is there for any length if time, I would imagine it's something else.

While browsing through the tabs on my Pip-boy on the “Workshops” one (lists all the available settlements) I noticed there are exclamation signs beside a lot of them, and when I highlight any of them the exclamation appears right next to the defense. Does that mean that settlement is under attack, or is the defense too low, or…?
