Yakuza 0 Substories Guide – Kazuma Kiryu

Head to The Shrine during Chapter 2 daytime to find this Substory. Become the Producer and then you’ll have to answer a series of questions and pick up some props.

Another available during Chapter 2 day hours. Head to the location and get close enough to get this Substory. During the Substory you will be given a variety of choices for dialogue options. I chose the following

You get a Fur Belly Warmer

You may have to complete Substory #9 before this becomes available. Head to the location on the map to overhear two people speaking near the Dream Machine. Head across the street and you’ll Kato from the previous director Substory.

The next part of this mission is very frustrating. You need to escort Miracle down the street while he’s getting attacked. Clear out the first wave of zombies and then run ahead. Take down as many zombies as you can before they reach Miracle. If you get far enough ahead he will stop, giving you room to take down the zombies.

Here you get a choice of reward, choose the Black Box or the White Box. The Black Box gives you a pair of Silent Shoes that reduces range at which enemies spot you in the open world. The White Box is a Baseball Shirt.

This Sidestory becomes available in Chapter 2, after you rest at Kiryu’s house and it becomes daytime. When you return to town check Shichifuku Street, near the save point. You’ll see a priest-looking person arguing with a young girl. Get close to start this Substory.

Head to the objective marker location on the map and speak with the young girl. You get various choices during the conversation, below is a list of the choices I made.

Head to the next objective area. You need to find Sachiko. The items she wears may change each playthrough and if you get it wrong you have to pay 10,000 Yen. Look for the girl with long black hair and the blue neck tie.

This Substory is a direct follow-on from Substory #12 – Miracle On Tenkaichi Street. After completing that Substory the same 2 people near the Dream Machine will give you this Substory. The Substory tells you to head to the club however, the Beefy Foreigner is not outside until late in Chapter 6 so return in Chapter 6 after you’ve unlocked the Real Estate mini-game.

You’ll have to dance against Miracle. It may be possible to beat him but even if you lose, you can still progress with the Substory. You get to make a choice of rewards again. The large black box has a Encounter Finder and the small white box has Tour T-Shirt

This Substory can be unlocked inside the Maharaja night club. I’m not entirely sure what triggered it but I got 2/3 stars on Normal for I’m Gonna Make Her Mine and then 3/3 on Easy. I was approached after the song. Simply beat the guy in a dance-off to complete this Substory.

This may be tied to Substory 28 so make sure you complete that first. Then return to the Majaraja club during the 2nd night scene in Chapter 2, after you clear out the Champion Residents in the main story. Win the dance competition to complete the Substory.

This Substory is directly tied to the Pocket Circuit Fighters friendship. When you keep racing in Pocket Circuits you increase your friendship with Pocket Circuit Fighter. After the children tease him for being a virgin, head back inside. Head towards the back of the room and a small child will challenge you to a race. Win the race to complete this Substory.

You get a Blue Bolt decal for completing the Substory.

This Substory is unlocked once you complete Substory 36 and max out the friendship bar with Pocket Circuit Fighter. You can find the kids in the park directly next to the Pocket Circuit building. Speak with them to begin the Substory and then win the race to complete it.

This can actually be quite challenging depending on the items you have. I wouldn’t attempt to complete this until later chapters. Pick up the Killerbee Pocket Circuit Car from the pawn shop. It does cost 50 million Yen but it’s much better than the other cars. Put a couple of good upgrades on it and you shouldn’t have a problem taking the kid down.

Another Sidestory that becomes available during Chapter 2. Speak to Officer Stop-and-Search Kikuchi to begin and end the Substory. I gave him some tissues when he asked what I was carrying. Speaking with Kikuchi also unlocks him as a friend.

Head to the location marked on the map above and speak with the Mushroom Merchant. You’ll have to kill a Hooligan to complete the Substory. You receive a Enokitake Mushroom as a reward and you can befriend him.

This is another simple Substory mission. Simply head to the area marked on the map. It must be daytime as it’s closed at night sometimes. Speak with the lady outside before heading inside to participate in a Pocket Circuit race. Complete the race and you will complete this Substory as well as unlocking a new friend.

During Chapter 2 head into the store located at the screenshot above. Once inside, purchase something. This will unlock the Substory and also friendship with Miho. You complete the Substory after speaking with her.

You can’t really miss this mission. After you give the bums the booze, Bacchus will appear and ask you to come talk to him in the alley. Help him out of his jam and he will teach you new Brawler skills.

This Substory becomes available during Chapter 2. You can find Kamoji on the East side of town at the Shichifuku Parking Lot, loot for the image of the portrait item. Simply speak to Kamoji to start and end the Substory.

This Substory is also available during Chapter 2 although its location varies. You need to find Mr Shakedown – Egashira. For me he was laying around near the Stop-and-Search police officer. You can rob from his body if he’s asleep, once he wakes you get given this Substory. You have to defeat him to complete this Substory.

He hits hard but using the Rush abilities make this fight quite easy. Wait for him to charge, hit him in the back and repeat.

After you complete Substory 92 there is another Mr Shakedown that appears. He does roam so you need to look for him but he’s a hard guy to miss. He’s 8ft tall wearing a bright purple jacket, Yuki Sato.

This quest is available during Chapter 2 but you must be during the 2nd night scene. Progress through until you are gathering the different types of alcohol for the homeless people. It is available then. Head to the location marked on the map above, you will see a group of people in a queue. Speak to the young kid at the back and then enter the store, before leaving again.

When you leave you will notice the queue is gone. Check nearby for the young kid again and come to his defense. Follow the obvious trail.

You get a Sunburst as a reward (A sword weapon)

During Chapter 2 when you are heading back to Kiryu’s apartment. You’ll find a strange acting Hooligan on Shichifuku Street West, on the Western edge of the map. It’s difficult to miss, look for the guy with the Elvis haircut. Following that you must travel to the Western area of the map, Theater Square. I’m not sure if the choices make any impact but I chose the following and every response was positive:

You get a Wild Shirt as a reward.

When you return to Kamurocho during Chapter 5. Head to the location marked above and speak with Mr Libido to start and complete the Substory. This also options up a friendship option.

Head to the Teltel Boys Club and pay to do the phone dating mini-game. Make sure you try each of the 3 packages in Teltel Boys Club, each is a different woman; I believe Riku was the middle package. There are only two girls here, speak to the one wearing blue.

She is wearing purple and has long hair. When you get to the date, inspect the girls closer and you’ll see a 3rd girl. The furthest girl is Ayaka.

Head to the Teltel Boys Club and pay to do the phone dating mini-game. You have to complete the mini-game successfully to get offered to go on a date. Make sure you pay attention to the description she gives you. Make sure you try each of the 3 packages in Teltel Boys Club, each is a different woman.

When you get to your destination, there will be two girls to choose from. Make sure you pick the one that matched the description she gave you on the phone. For me it was the furthest woman. Defeat her ex-boyfriend to complete the Substory. You also get the chance to befriend Haruki.

This is another one at the Teltel Boys Club dating game. Complete the dating mini-game to get the girl on a date. It’s a no show so the Substory is completed straighta way.

This is another one at the Teltel Boys Club dating game. Complete the dating mini-game to get the girl on a date. This one is Mirei, she has short hair and is wearing blue.

Another one from the Teltel Boys Club dating game. As before, complete the mini-game and go on the date.

Head to the location above anytime during Chapter 5. Speak to the merchant and he will tell you that you need a password. Continue with the Substory, chasing the guy to get the password. Head to the objective marker and speak with Monmon. You need to ask her Plans for today and tomorrow’s weather. Then you have to fight a bunch of Mafia. She will answer with plans for today are a movie date and tomorrow’s weather is rain at noon. Head back to Li Leung and answer with movie date and rain at noon.

When he returns you get a broken M1985 and the password “Subotenuhigeukiro”. You have to actually enter the password manually. Copy the EXACT password below with a capital S

“Subotenuhigeukiro”

That completes the Substory.

Head into the Mahajara club during Chapter 5’s night scene and participate in another dancing competition. Put the difficulty to easy and make as many steps between the actual steps as possible and you should be fine. You get a Isobe Fan for completing this Substory.

This Substory is available at the beginning of Chapter 6. Head to the objective marker above and speak with the young boy at the side of the street. You’ll have to sneak past some people to get the magazine. It’s easy.

This quest opens in Chapter 6. Once you have progressed through the story until you’re told to go to the Kamuro Shopping Area, head to the Sugita Building as highlighted above. Once inside you’ll listen to the radio and open this Substory.

Interact with the desk and write a story based on a Substory to submit to the radio station. I wrote about the Fortune-Teller and it was read out on radio, this completes this Substory.

This is a direct follow-on from Kazuma Kiryu Substory #25 – Postcard Rookie Kiryu. You need to have a 2nd story read out on the radio. For my second story I chose to write about The Quest for Ara-Q3

This is a direct follow-on from Kazuma Kiryu Substory #26 – Postcard Pro Kiryu. You need to have a 3rd story read out on the radio. For my third story I chose to write about The Miracle Walk. I did try several others that didn’t work so it may be related to the number you have to submit, instead of the actual story. You get a pair of Hercules Gloves for completing this Substory.

This is another available during Chapter 6. Head to the location marked above during the night scene, straight after you unlock the Real Estate mini-game. After you hear the two women discuss the Fortune Teller head to the next objective marker to the North East and speak with the Fortune Teller at her stall. Most of the questions/answers are irrelevant but when asked about putting the price on a child, choosing priceless incurs a negative response from the fortune teller. You can also recruit the Fortune-Teller for the Real Estate mini-game.

Head to the location on the map above. Once you arrive, search for a lady curled up on the floor. You need to give her any kind of healing item to get her on her feet and begin this Substory. She gives you a secret wallet and asks you to go and find some pizza.

Head to the next objective marker, Smile Burger. It’s located a couple blocks to the South West. Once you get the pizza you only have 90 seconds to return to Samantha so make sure you memorize her location above before running with the pizza. Return with the pizza to complete the Substory.

Head to this location during Chapter 6. Look for a man staring at the entrance to a nightclub. Speak with him to start this Substory. He’ll give you 10,000 Yen to start the Substory and get into the club. When prompted in conversation tell her that you heard about her from a friend. Next ask her if she has any room-mates. Finally, ask if her fathers not around. You’ll get a Goddess of Children Amulet for completing this Substory.

Head to the bar located at the marker above. It’s only open during the night time so make sure to visit when it’s open. Head inside and you’ll find a reporter, speak with Kasuga to begin this Substory. When you leave the bar you will need to wait a short time before you can return. Do other things and just check for the ! periodically. Once it appears head back to the bar to speak with Kasuga. You get a 9mm Automatic Pistol as a reward for protecting him.

Head to the location marked above to begin this Substory. After a drawn out conversation, just keep refusing to buy it.

Head to the location marked on the map above and speak to the man standing near the parked car and bike. He will inform you that someone from the Dojima family wants to meet you. It’s a simple Substory with a few combat scenes.

Head to the Mach Bowl bowling alley during Chapter 6 after you have unlocked the Real Estate mini-game. Ask to compete against the staff. Beating her will complete the Substory and also unlock Emiri as a friend.

You must first have completed Kazuma Kiryu Substory #37 – The Rocky Road of Romance. Head inside the Pocket Circuit racing building and speak with the young girl to begin this Substory. Beat her in a race and you get the DRAG-ON Pocket Circuit Car as a reward.

Head to the location and order a couple of dishes. You cannot order anything if you are at full health. Once you’ve placed your order and eaten the food you will receive and complete this Substory. You can also befriend the Sushi Gins Chef.

This Substory becomes available once you have dominated the Leisure King Area and defeated The Leisure King. Head to the area marked above and you’ll overhear two people talking about recruiting. Once you pick up the Substory return to the office and speak with the secretary. Return after some time and she’ll have a candidate. The first one is a scam so don’t recruit them. After that, the Substory is complete.

This is the next applicant that comes to the office after you speak with the secretary. This time is a little different as you’re expected to find holes in her statements. Pick her cooking and her summary, traditional Japanese Inns don’t serve European dishes.

A follow on from Kazuma Kiryu Substory #16 – Help Wanted Again. Whilst in the interview the answers are “Legal Studies” ask about his dining knowledge and then dining scene.

Head into the SEGA Hi-Tech Land and race on the driving game. A nearby lady will approach you after. You also get the option to befriend Luka.

This Substory is available from the Real Estate office. You need to complete the Leisure King and Electronics King areas first. Acquire all properties and defeat both in battle. The next time you return to the office you will get a phone call regarding a tax inspection. Leave the office and you’ll bump into the tax inspector. Once you’re inside the other office search the corner for some VHS tapes and say to Marui that the presence is out of place. During the conversation choose the following options You have great taste in clothes and A house, maybe? and ask for a hand shake.

That ends this Substory. Agent Marui will join your team as an Advisor. You also get a Trouble Finder as a reward

This is a direct follow on from Kazuma Kiryu Substory #4 – Kamurocho Undercover. Return after some time to the bar and you should get this mission. I had complete the Leisure King and Electronics King areas before checking, so they may be related. Head to the next objective marker in Pink Alley, to the South West. Once you hear Kasuga speaking with the Human Trafficker head back to the bar for the next stage of the Substory. Then head back to Pink Alley. Beat down the bad guy and the Substory is complete.

This is a follow on from Kazuma Kiryu Substory #38 – Gift of Love. Return to the Pocket Circuit racing track after some time and she should have another Substory for you. You need to defeat another person in a Pocket Circuit race. Take him down to complete the Substory.

This is a follow on from Kazuma Kiryu Substory #39 – Suspicion Of Perversion. Return to the Pocket Circuit racing track to take on the Pocket Circuit Ace. You get a Sunshine decal if you win.

This is a follow on from Kazuma Kiryu Substory #40 – The Prodigious Racer. After completing that Substory head to the Earth Angel bar on the East side of town in The Champion District. You will find Harumi there, you need to defeat the Pocket Circuit Professor. You get a Cool Striker Pocket Circuit car and Heavy Suspension when you beat her.

This is a follow on from the Kazuma Kiryu Substory #41 – The Woman They Call Professor Substory. After you beat the Professor head back inside for the race against the champion. You get the Dark Purple decal when you win.

This is a follow on from the Kazuma Kiryu Substory #42 – The Greatest Glory Substory. The final showdown. You will need to defeat Pocket Circuit Fighter to complete this Substory. This was the only Substory in the Pocket Circuit line that I struggled with. I tried probably close to 20 different configurations but it’s also about the actual racing, while the others aren’t. Save your boost for the part after the jump. Below is a screenshot of my Pocket Circuit car with the specs I used to beat him. The items equipped are in the big list in the lower right corner.

This Substory is only available after you progress through Chapter 6. Complete the objective to visit the Empty Lot and you’ll meet a rich guy afterwards. He will tell you to head to Theater Square. Head down the stairs and speak with the homeless guy. He will ask you to demonstrate your wealth. Use the ability you just got from the rich guy and press square. Head inside to unlock the Cat Fights and complete the Substory.

This Substory is only available after you progress through Chapter 6. Complete the objective to visit the Empty Lot and you’ll meet a rich guy afterwards. Fukushima will now head to the Vincent Bar in the North East of the map. Head there and speak with him to complete this Substory. You can now send money between the 2 main characters.

During Chapter 9 head to the Gandhara Kamurocho video store. I’m not sure if it’s tied to one specific video but I watched Haruki Sato. Following the video exit the building and go back inside. You should see the clerk arguing with a customer. Choose to watch the video with him and then search for the girl. She could be at Korean BBQ, Batting or Bowling locations. She was at the Korean BBQ for me. Once you find her return to the Gandhara and tell the guy. Then head back to where you found her for the awkward introduction.

This Substory is available much earlier but I didn’t get around to it. Head to the docks, using any Taxi, and speak with Miss Tatsu there to begin your training. Once you’ve spoken to her complete her first training mission and you’ll complete the Substory.

In Chapter 10 after you buy Kiryu’s safety during the story, head to this location marked on the map. You’ll get jumped by a guy after his girlfriend tells you to rescue her friend. Take him out and then head to the park in the North East. Enter and leave, you will get jumped by some Yakuza. Take them out, return to their hideout and rescue Shinji.

Head to this location in Chapter 10. You’ll be asked to fill in for a telephone call. When prompted answer with Nice Voice, Yes We’re A Family and Manhood. Following the conversation head to the park in the North East and go to the fountain. You’ll have to defeat a kidnapper and free a child. You get a Super Spicy Knife.

This is one from the Sunshine Club. You need Ai as a Platinum Hostess. Once you defeat Club Mars and put them out of business she will join Sunshine. Finish all of her training and offer to go to the bridge with her. That will complete this Substory.

Head to the location marked on the map above. There’s a poster on the wall near a trash can. Read the poster to begin this Subquest. Simply head to the objective. You’ll have to complete a fight with dropping HP so bring some healing items with you.

You get Saki as a Platinum Hostess once you defeat Club Jupiter and put them out of business. You need to complete all of her training and at the very end you’ll start a Substory to get her out of a sticky situation.

This is another Substory found within the Teltel Boys Club. You need to get Maria on a date. She wears a white bikini and sounds old. She has short hair and is wearing purple clothes. There’s no puzzle to this one, just finish the date and you complete the Substory.

This is another Substory found within the Teltel Boys Club. She’s wearing a green bikini and sounds really, really young. As before, turn up, complete the date and the Substory is complete. Make sure you’re at full health for this Substory, just to be safe.

The Premium Adventure option is available when you complete the game. It basically takes you back into the world so you can free roam and complete anything you’ve missed. It is possible to get this final Substory before this point but it’s likely you won’t have the requirements until this point. In order to get this Substory you have to complete EVERY other Substory with Kiryu.

SAVE. Save before you do this fight. It’s long, frustrating and very difficult. If you fail and don’t want to keep trying your options are to reload or quit, so be sure to save directly before the fight.

You will get a series of messages on your Pager. Following that take a Taxi to the Bullfighter Arena.

This fight is probably the most difficult in the game. You want to bring a full inventory of items that heal as much as possible and provide as much Heat as possible. You fight a single enemy with about 8 bars of HP and a cannon that fires single shot, area of effect explosions and a beam blast that is a one hit kill. The only solution I found to defeating the Mysterious Man, So Amon, is the Super Spicy Knife – which you can buy if you’ve discovered the recipe.

Hit him once with the knife, that sets him on fire and knocks him to the floor. Switch to another stance and hit him with Triangle while he’s down to build up Heat. Once you have 1-1.5 bars of Heat, switch back to the knife and use Triangle for a stabbing attack. Rinse and repeat.

Halfway through the fight he loses the cannon and switches to a similar fight style to Mr Shakedown. Items will be dropped from a helicopter, avoid them as best you can. Sometimes a small bottle that will drop, grab that and you will become invincible.
