How To Free Shadowheart (Rescue Illithid’s Captive) In Baldur’s Gate 3

During the prologue you will encounter a woman trapped in a Mindflayer pod. This guide on How To Free Shadowheart (Rescue Illithid’s Captive) In Baldur’s Gate 3 will tell you everything you need to know to free Shadowheart, as this is a vital companion that you can miss if you don’t free her before leaving the Mindflayer ship.

If you approach the pod and speak with Shadowheart, she will tell you to check the nearby console. However, when you inspect the console, nothing happens. You do find a strange slot on the device, but you do not have the tools or abilities to activate it. Don’t worry though, you don’t have to travel far.

Head through the East exit and into the next room. There are a few bodies here. The closer body will give you a key for the chest in the room where Shadowheart is trapped. However, you don’t need that key, you’re looking for a Rune. Head to the very back of the Eastern room and you will find a Rune on a corpse. Grab the rune and head back to the room where Shadowheart is located.

Interact with the console next to Shadowhearts pod again and this time you can use the Rune to power up the device. You can then use your new Illithid ability to activate the rune and interact with the device. That will free Shadowheart and then she becomes your companion.
