A combination of extreme sports, high-flying action, and breakneck speeds, Pow Wow Entertainment and THQ Nordic’s Jected – Rivals cranks the energy up to 11. There’s no denying that this elimination tournament has more energy than a Red Bull bender, but does it provide a good or bad rush?

Jected – Rivals Early Access Preview

After making a mad dash, players will grab their ticket to the Jected – Rivals show, a reality show that takes the battle royale action we’ve all come to know and love and brings it to the wide world of racing. No need to worry about tuning, suspension, or even what color each car is – plenty of random rides line the track, just waiting for you to jump right in.

As one would expected with a predicament like this, the cars in Jected – Rivals were meant to get down and dirty. Loop-de-loops, spike traps, perilous jumps, and nitro boosts all ensure that there’s never a dull moment. With 18 players in each elimination race and only one winner, the best way to get qualified is to ram opponents and find a way to get ahead by any means necessary.

The racing mechanics get the job done; there’s an emphasis on speed and drifting with handbrake drifts and other dynamic maneuvers. However, whether by design or mere happenstance, it’s far too easy to end up flipping a car and pulling out your grappling hook to find a new set of wheels. The Burnout and Need for Speed series faced similar predicaments, but kept the frustration at a far lower level. There’s a respawn button, sure, but it can feel like these cars are light as a feather.

You know what else is light as a feather? The player!

If one gets tired of terra firma, Jected – Rivals lets players eject themselves into the sky. A jetpack with limited fuel works in a clutch, but there is also a wingsuit (with its very own boost!) that helps players feel free as a bird. This system is also a little awkward, with the pitch a bit tricky to get down. However, going from car to sky to grappling hook to car again is unlike anything else we’ve played.

This battle royale takes advantage of both of these elements by varying up each challenge. For every standard race, there’s also skydiving challenges, launching challenges, and other wild predicaments. As of May 7 there’s not too much to choose from, but the title is also still fairly new.

Outside of the main mode and two characters, players can add additional characters and cars through its Starter and Supporter Packs. While Andee the crash test dummy is certainly a lively character, we ended up going the free route during our time with the title.

Jected – Rivals flying and driving mechanics get the job done, but those looking to rise to the top should learn to overcome its different quirks and repeated events. Nevertheless, this battle royale shows promise, and we’re eager to jump back into this show for future seasons.

This Early Access preview of Jected – Rivals was done on the PC. The title was freely downloaded.
Players will have to come to terms with suicide with the release of Rasul Mono and Ratalaika Games' Acceptance. Should players traverse this dark path in this story-driven thriller?
The residents of Packmore need players’ help once againi with the release of SMG Studio, Devm Games, and Team17's Moving Out 2. Promising to be even wackier than its predecessor, should players move out and get to work?
Quick kills are back on the menu with the release of Bevel bakery, Just For Games, and Abiding Bridge's Sclash. A game where timing is everything, does this 2D samurai fighter turn the traditional formula on its head?
Roughly a year after being first shown, Deck13 and Focus Entertainment's Atlas Fallen arrives between Baldur's Gate 3 and Starfield. Does the game do enough to stand out in what has proven to be a stellar year for gaming, or will it fall by the wayside?

Starward Industries and 11 bit studios are combining sci-fi, philosophy, and a heaping helping of out-of-this-world atmosphere with their new title The Invincible. We got a chance to dive into its atompunk world – see what’s to come with our preview.

The Invincible Preview

Kicking off shortly after the beginning of the title, our journey with the astrobiologist Yasna kicked things off with a dire situation. She’s stuck on an alien planet, lost her memory, and has no contact with the crew – what’s a girl to do?

Eventually coming across a camp, things get even stranger – their andronot is jammed, Dr. Krauta is in a stupor, and there are other things that don’t quite add up.

What follows is a journey to make things right. As players traverse its world, they’ll set out to find crewmates, extraction sites, and other clues that can help Yasna get to the bottom of things.

The Invincible does this by absolutely immersing players into this alien planet. This protagonist is tenacious and skilled; there are tracker signals, telemeters, journals, and other things that can be used by Yasna. Much like the Bioshock series of games, this interaction with the environment lets people discover the world on their own terms. No need for waypoints when there’s a mission log that people can reference.

There’s even graphical flourishes like the space suit fogging up when sprinting. This tried and true principle of showing as opposed to telling really makes things go far.

Although Yasna’s in a dire situation, we’re eager to fully immerse ourselves in the full release of The Invincible and lead her on her journey home.

The Invincible will come out for the PC via Steam in 2023. As part of LudoNarraCon (happening from May 4 to 8), a demo of the game will be available. Learn more on the official Steam page here.

This preview of The Invincible was done on the PC. A digital demo code was provided by the publisher.

A year that featured the FIFA World Cup, Milky Way’s black hole, and the triumphant box office return of the almighty Tom Cruise, 2022 has been one for the books.

While it was admittedly a quiet year in the world of video games, there were still some notable titles that kept our PC and consoles happily buzzing along. Our shortlist might not consist of pure AAA 800-pound gorillas, but that doesn’t mean we didn’t thoroughly enjoy our time with each and every one of our picks.

Here are Gamers Heroes’ 2022 Game of the Year winners, in no particular order…

King Arthur Knight’s Tale

One of the most unique titles to release this year, Neocore’s dark fantasy RPG King Arthur’s: Knights Tale wowed us from beginning to end.

Its fresh take on Arthurian Legend followed the Knights of the Round Table on their quest to reclaim Avalon. This isn’t Monty Python and the Holy Grail, however; this title combined the best elements of turn-based tactical titles and more traditional, character-centric RPGs to create something that is equal parts rewarding and ruthless.

As a result, King Arthur’s: Knights Tale truly captures that rogue-like adrenaline surge every encounter players face. Every decision players make is absolutely crucial, from religion to the ever-lasting battle between Tyranny and Righteousness. Sir Mordred’s morale compass is a fickle thing, and we had an absolute blast carefully crafting our character.

You can read our review of King Arthur: Knight’s Tale here.

Elden Ring

Despite coming out at the beginning of the year, FromSoftware and Bandai Namco’s Elden Ring stands at the top of a very tall hill.

The Souls series has been going strong for more than a decade, but Directors Hidetaka Miyazaki and Yui Tanimura turned the formula on its head by giving players the chance to freely roam its open world. After players create their character, pick a class, and choose a starter item, the sky’s the limit; there is loot to find, caves, NPCs, side quests, and even bosses waiting to be discovered.

However, it is how everything comes together in the Lands Between that makes Elden Ring a truly special experience. While things might connect in weird and unexpected ways, it leads to a sense of wonder we haven’t seen since the release of 2017’s The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Paired with the organic events that happen with the most unusual of fellows (including the one and only Alexander the Potman) and you’ve got an experience that immerses players in its world that only FromSoftware can do.

You can read our review of Elden Ring here.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns

The sheer amount of content released around the Marvel Cinematic Universe as of late might have led to some fatigue among even the most diehard of true believers, but Firaxis Games and 2K’s Marvel’s Midnight Suns keeps the dream alive.

Getting the critically acclaimed developers of the X-COM franchise was an incredibly smart decision for this turn-based tactical RPG. However, its card system – which has players picking three characters that pack their own decks – really seals the deal. With characters hailing from Midnight Sons, Avengers, X-Men, and Runaways, the depth and quality of each respective characters’ combat abilities is simply incredible. Even after we conquered Marvel’s Midnight Suns and all its side content, we were still eager to try out different builds and combinations.

Put simply, Marvel’s Midnight Suns is what happens when you give a passionate studio an established IP with such promise and potential, something incredibly rare in this day and age.

Gotham Knights

We couldn’t just give Marvel all of the love this year; our experience with WB Games action RPG Montréal’s Gotham Knights also made a lasting impression with an open world that felt truly alive.

Taking control of Nightwing, Batgirl, Robin, and Red Hood, its battle between the Court of Owls and the League of Shadows had us glued from the very first cutscene. It provided a fresh take on the Gotham City players know all too well, with Harley Quinn, Clayface, Mr. Freeze, the Man-Bat Commandos, and even The Penguin rounding out an all-star cast of heroes and villains.

Its fast, responsive, and action-packed combat fit its open world like a glove, striking the perfect balance between stealth and all-out brawling. Whether we were breaking through shields or dodging powered attacks, we were constantly on our toes and truly felt like a badass from the first punch to the last.

Not only is this title a must-play for fans of open-world titles, it is also an easy pickup for fans of Gotham Knights or the DC Universe.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge

Everything old is new again with the release of Dotemu, Gamera Games, and Tribute Games’ retro revival beat-em-up Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge.

Timeless classic brawling mechanic pushes its one attack button to its absolute limit. Don’t be fooled though; players will combo with jumps and dives, spam for multiple attacks, charge for special attacks, and even taunt as they set out to stop Shredder, Foot Soldiers, Triceraton Warriors, and Rock Troops.

Six player simultaneous co-op, full-color pixel art graphics, and aesthetics that stay true to the 1987 TV show seal the deal, making this title the next big hit for one’s next get-together. The best part? Levels run from six to ten minutes, never overstaying their welcome. It might not be an epic, but it most certainly is radical.
