It’s time to get spooky – October is here. It’s just just about tricks and treats though; there’s a number of hot gaming releases hitting the scene this month. On that note, here are our 5 best games of October 2021. Oh, and we won’t make you click through five pages to look at the entire list.

Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water

The fifth main entry in the long-running Fatal Frame series, Koei Tecmo is returning to the world of Japanese horror with the release of Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water. With the Camera Obscura in hand, players are tasked with navigating Mount Ht. Hikami, which is filled with hostile ghosts. In order to survive, players must take pictures and hit weak spots with the “fatal frame” weak spot attack.

Originally released on the Wii U, this version of the game will feature remastered visuals, new costumes, and additional photo features

The game will come out for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC on October 28, 2021.

Alan Wake Remastered

Players will once again set out to banish the darkness with October’s release of Alan Wake Remastered. Originally released in 2010, this title puts players in the shoes of troubled author Alan Wake as he embarks on a desperate search for his missing wife Alice in the Pacific Northwest town of Bright Falls.

Included in this release is the main game and its two story expansions – The Signal and The Writer – with new 4K visuals.

Alan Wake Remastered will come out for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on October 5, 2021.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy

Star-Lord is back in action with the release of Eidos-Montréal and Square Enix’s Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Things are looking bleak from the outset – events are set several years after a massive intergalactic war and the Guardians have caused a small accident after one of their scams goes wrong.

The title is played from a third-person perspective, and players will be able to make key decisions that affect the relationships between the Guardians and certain missions. Players will also be able to launch their own motivational speeches with the “Team Huddle” functionality, which provides different gameplay benefits.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy will come out for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC on October 26, 2021.

Far Cry 6

Ubisoft Toronto is taking players to the Caribbean island of Yara with the release of Far Cry 6. With the new “Fangs for Hire” system in place, players must take down “El Presidente” Antón Castillo and his regime. As the largest Far Cry playground to date, players will use makeshift weapons and utilize different vehicles on this island.

Far Cry 6 will come out for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Google Stadia, and Amazon Luna on October 7, 2021.

Metroid Dread

Set after the events of 2002’s Metroid Fusion, players will once again be able to step into the shoes of bounty hunter Samus Aran with the release of MercurySteam and Nintendo’s Metroid Dread. The side-scrolling gameplay makes its return, with players utilizing free aim and melee attacks against the EMMI robots.

According to Series Producer Yoshio Sakamoto, the game was designed from the concept of having Samus followed by “dread” on an unfamiliar planet.

Metroid Dread will come out for the Nintendo Switch on October 8, 2021.
